The Last Straw

“I t doesn’t matter that they erased the video. They’ve all seen her naked.” Maverick’s voice wakes me up. My brain throbs as it pulses against my skull.

“I want to know how far they got. I don’t believe Lance for a second.” That’s Kal, but then I hear Mitch. “I think the most important thing is finding out who in the hell drugged her.”

“Well duh,” Maverick and Kal say together. I sit up too fast. Pain shoots across my head and I smack my lips, realizing how dry they are. My tongue is swollen to twice its size.

I don’t recognize this room. Everything in it is black except for the white carpet. When I make it to my feet, I sway and stumble my way to the door. On my way, I glance down and notice that I’m in Maverick’s shirt. There’s not much I remember from last night and the guys’ conversation only confuses me further.

Pushing my way out into the hallway, I follow their voices. Kal and Maverick are sitting on a black leather couch and Mitch is in a chair. They don’t see me standing here and for a moment I feel awkward.

It’s so strange knowing they used to be my best friends. And now I stand in this room wanting to run home instead of talking to them about last night.

“Ryler,” Mitch breathes and strides over to me, wrapping me in his arms. Kal hands me water and some ibuprofen. Maverick pulls me away from Mitch and places me on his lap.

“Who handed you that drink last night?” Maverick asks as I put the pills in my mouth and gulp down the cold water. My mouth is so dry that at first the water skates over my tongue. But once I chug it down, I can feel it returning to its normal size.

“Woah, bro, let her wake up first,” Kal says, squeezing my thigh… my bare thigh. I feel an odd clenching in my core and instinctively I push my thighs together.

Kal grabs the empty glass from my hand. His thumb grazes my thigh before he lets go to put the cup up. It takes everything in me to bite back a moan at his touch.

Maverick pulls me into him, and I feel his arm resting under my breasts. I know he has to feel I’m braless. The heat from him touching me is too much for me. I push out of his lap and opt for the couch cushion next to him.

“Do you remember anything from last night?” Mitch asks, bringing me back down to earth.

I close my eyes and try to think. “I thought you placed the drink in my hand, but when I went to thank you, no one was there.” Mitch mentions Lisa, but I don’t think it was her. I tell them as much as I can remember.

When I mention Sam, Maverick grins. “She hates that you call her that.” He lets out a laugh. “But I told her last night we were done.
